Holding Space for Healing: A Transformative Journey
Namaste, Reader!
Last week, I had the incredible honor of leading a cohort of yoga teacher trainees through their trauma-informed yoga teaching training. Watching these compassionate and driven individuals evolve into nurturing teachers has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my teaching journey.
Throughout the training, we explored the foundations of trauma and its impact on the nervous system, discussing how yoga can provide a path toward healing through the mind-body connection. Together, we unpacked the 7 key principles of trauma-informed teaching—from cultivating safety and trust to offering choice and empowerment.
Using these principles as a guide, trainees learned how to create yoga spaces that are inclusive, empowering, and deeply respectful of the unique journeys of each student. We also examined how the practice of yoga serves as a powerful tool to reconnect with the body and soothe the nervous system, helping students heal and thrive.
It was truly inspiring to see these teachers embrace their roles as holders of sacred and healing spaces for their communities. Their dedication to fostering environments of care and understanding will no doubt ripple out to transform countless lives.
If you’re interested in deepening your understanding of trauma-informed yoga, I’d love to invite you to my upcoming Virtual Trauma-Informed Yoga Workshop. This is a perfect opportunity to explore the principles of trauma-informed teaching and learn how to integrate them into your own practice or teaching.
