Cultivating Calm: Returning to the Heart of Yoga

Namaste, Reader,

Lately, I’ve been returning to the roots of my practice—meditation, journaling, and devotional study. These quiet, consistent rituals have helped me calm my thoughts, reconnect with my purpose, and realign my actions with the deeper "why" behind the work I do.

As I look to expand my private offerings and serve more individuals through trauma-informed and accessible yoga, I’ve been reflecting on the true goal of yoga. In the words of the Yoga Sutras: Yogaś citta-vṛtti-nirodhaḥ — Yoga is the stilling of the fluctuations of the mind.

This week, I’ve taken time to explore what that means both philosophically and scientifically. Yoga, at its essence, is union. And for me, that union begins with mental clarity and emotional steadiness—creating a safe internal space that allows me to hold space for others with compassion and presence.

The wisdom in texts like The Bhagavad Gita, Buddha’s Brain, and Asana Pranayama Mudra Bandha has been deeply nourishing. These resources weave together Eastern wisdom and neuroscience, revealing how our breath, movement, and mindset shape the nervous system—and by extension, our relationships, resilience, and sense of wholeness.

In the coming weeks, I look forward to sharing more reflections and practices with you that invite steadiness, connection, and inner calm.

What’s been helping you return to center lately?
